After a very intense year-long battle with an incredibly rare pediatric cancer called Diffused Anaplastic Wilms Tumour, we tragically lost our son Rakan at age 6. We learned a lot during the year about the medical process, drugs and their effects, advocacy as parents, and what it will take to get to a cure. The answer is research. Research for rare cancers is woefully underfunded as it's not profitable for drug companies, so it's up to us all to raise money to fund research. We've raised over $150,000 between checks and online donations but would love to get to $200,000. We are fortunate enough to have one of the world's leading experts on Wilms at Children's Hospital, and we are committed to helping him find a cure so others don't have to lose their loved ones. Since this fund was launched, Dr Jeffrey Dome has been table to tap into these funds to launch clinical trials specifically to help find a cure for the incredibly rare strain of cancer that Rakan had. We are so very grateful to our global village for making this happen -- now, let's keep going!
Donations in Rakan’s cherished memory will support Wilms’ tumor research at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s National under the supervision of world renowned oncologist Dr Jeffrey Dome.
