As a runner or walker, you have a chance to make a real difference for kids by raising money to help kids in our community grow up stronger. Specifically, funds raised through the Race for Every Child will help improve care, expand access, and find cures for childhood diseases.
Because your registration fee simply covers the costs of managing the event, we ask every participant to raise at least $250 in addition to their registration fee. Every dollar raised above the registration fee will directly benefit children in need of medical care.
We’re here to help you raise money, even if you’ve never done it before. Sometimes all it takes is asking your friends and family members, and we have online tools and resources to make that easy. See our fundraising incentives.

Fun Ways to Fundraise!
“We hosted a fun Sunday afternoon wine tasting at Broad Branch Market to support the hospital. The purpose of the event was to inspire our community to join our race team and kick-off fundraising efforts.”
- Sarah Koch & Campbell Smith, Grateful Family Team
“I posted various incentives on my fundraising page and emails depending on the amount donors raised. When I hit my goal of $1,000 I promised to wear a pink wig to the Race – and I did!”
- Ashley Nolan, Team Milagro
Ask your employer if they have a matching gift program
Ask your employer if they will form a company team. All company teams have the option of hosting an internal kickoff, run by a race staff member. Our internal kickoffs include a presentation to educate your staff about Children's National and the race, and includes a registration day at your company with giveaways
Instead of asking for traditional birthday, housewarming, or celebration gifts, ask your friends and family to make a donation to your team.
Ask local businesses to set up a collection jar at their cash register. Create a fun donation jar with a team picture and share your story. Post flyers on bulletin boards at local restuarants, other businesses, and community centers.
Hold a benefit night at a local restaurant. Many restaurants already have programs to help nonprofits fundraise, and many will give you a percentage of sales for a designated day.
Host a pre-event fundraiser with your team members - like a garage sale, car wash, bake sale, house party, spaghetti dinner, ice cream social, golf outing, or pancake breakfast.
Consider a back to school bash, such as a BBQ fundraiser to celebrate the end of summer or the beginning of the school year.
Our Race Mission
The Race for Every Child is a fun event with a serious purpose -- to bring the Washington metropolitan community together to encourage children’s health and wellness and to raise much-needed funds that help Children’s National ensure that every child can benefit from world-class medical care. The race has three focus areas:
The Race for Every Child raises funds to help every child reach his or her full potential. Revenue from the race directly supports therapies, research, advocacy, wellness and education programs, and family support.
The Race for Every Child is more than a 5K run and walk. It’s a community event that brings together families, community leaders, partners, and sponsors to support a common vision – to help children grow up stronger.
Fitness and Wellness
The 5K walk and run, and the Kids’ Dash, give every family member a chance to start the day focusing on fitness, wellness, and health. We provide activities and information for people of all ages and backgrounds.
